Common materials of stainless steel heat exchangers:
Stainless steel heat exchangers are usually made of various stainless steel materials to meet the needs of different industries and application scenarios. Among them, the most common materials include 201, 304, 316L, and 310S.
1、201 stainless steel
The grade of 201 stainless steel is 1Cr17Mn6Ni5N, which is a low nickel stainless steel with certain corrosion resistance. However, compared to other stainless steel materials, its corrosion resistance is relatively weak. Therefore, in some situations where high corrosion resistance is not required, such as general industrial applications, 201 stainless steel can be used as the material choice for heat exchangers. However, in fields such as food and medicine that require high hygiene standards, the application of 201 stainless steel is relatively limited.
2、 304 stainless steel
304 stainless steel, also known as 18-8 stainless steel, with the grade 06Cr19Ni10 (or 0Cr18Ni9), is a widely used stainless steel material. It has good corrosion resistance, heat resistance, and processing performance, especially strong corrosion resistance to most organic and inorganic acids at room temperature. Therefore, in fields such as food processing, medicine, and domestic water that require high hygiene standards, 304 stainless steel is the preferred material for heat exchangers.
3、316L stainless steel
The grade of 316L stainless steel is 022Cr17Ni12Mo2, which adds molybdenum element to 304 stainless steel to improve its corrosion resistance, especially in terms of resistance to chloride ion corrosion. This makes 316L stainless steel widely used in fields such as marine environment, chemical industry, and pharmaceuticals that require high corrosion resistance. At the same time, 316L stainless steel also has good high temperature resistance and can maintain stable performance at higher temperatures.
4、310S stainless steel
310S stainless steel is a high-temperature stainless steel with excellent resistance to high-temperature oxidation and creep. It can maintain high strength and toughness at high temperatures, so it is often used as a heat exchanger in high-temperature environments such as furnaces and heat treatment equipment. However, due to its high cost and unnecessary use in some non high temperature environments, its application range is relatively limited.

The material selection of stainless steel heat exchangers has a crucial impact on their performance and service life. Firstly, different materials have different corrosion resistance properties, and choosing the appropriate material can ensure the long-term stable operation of the heat exchanger in a specific working environment. Secondly, the thermal conductivity and mechanical properties of the material can also affect the heat transfer efficiency and structural strength of the heat exchanger. Therefore, when selecting the material for stainless steel heat exchangers, it is necessary to comprehensively consider factors such as the usage environment, medium characteristics, operating conditions, and budget constraints.
